veterans, one a former navy s.e.a.l., chris kyle and his friend chad littlefield were shot and killed in ft. worth texas. the man who pulled the trigger is a veteran who kyle may have been trying to help with ptsd. susan candiotti joins us live with more. what do we know about how this happened? >> well, got some brand new information during the press conference. first of all, we learned about an alleged confession. and police say they think they also have found the murder weapon, when they describe as a semiautomatic handgun that was found at the suspect's house. let's back up a little bit. after the double shooting at that gun lodge, police say the suspected shooter who's 25-year-old eddie ray ralph took off in kyle's pickup truck. then they said that he went to his sister's house and told her and his brother what had happened, and then left that house. that's when the sister called the police. police put out an all points bulletin and tracked ralph, the suspect to his own house. now, the home was ringed, according to what one police lieutenant told me, with at least a dozen police off

honor a great american hero, chief petty officer chris kyle, who unfortunately was killed on february 2. normally you would think that this would be honoring a soldier that was killed in action. unfortunately chris kyle gave his life while trying to help a fellow soldier who was dealing with some big issues. and so today, my colleagues and i want to spend the next hour honoring the life and the sacrifice that chris kyle did and gave for his country. this is a difficult time for me, not only to honor chris like this, chris kyle was not only a navy seal hero but also a personal friend of myself and my family. our warmest wishes and prayers and thoughs go out to the family in this difficult time. this will be a time today where we're going to reflect on chris' life and we had a tremendous outpouring of people who wanted to share stories about chris, and we're going to share some of those. but i know chris would have wanted this to also not be necessarily about him, but for the country that he fought for and believed in and loved so dearly. chris was all american. everything that he did,

tonight about the shooting death of chris kyle. he was the u.s. navy sniper who became a legend in iraq. kyle, who was 38, was killed over the weekend at a firing range in texas apparently by another iraq war veteran. anna werner that has latest. >> reporter: chris kyle's marksman skills were so precise iraqi insurgents nicknamed him the devil of ramadi. his best selling book "american sniper" chronicled the former navy seal's mission to protect american soldiers. he spoke with cbs dallas station ktvt last year. >> my only regret is not being to save every guy. that's what keeps me up at night, but every shot i took i felt extremely justified. >> reporter: kyle felt his negotiation protect his comrades extended into civilian life. he often took troubled veterans to shooting ranges like this one south of dallas for a day of camaraderie and conversation. >> apparently mr. kyle works with people that are suffering from some issues from being in the military and this shooter is possibly one of those people. >> reporter: the suspect, eddie ray routh, is a former marine. police say he sh
